GUANDA

Established by UgoGuandalini and active in Parma since 1932, the publishing house has stood for an original and innovative publishing line, reflected in a catalogue offering Italian readers great European and American poetry, crucial twentieth-century writers, and exponents of the brightest currents of modern thought.
Its characteristics as a literary publisher attentive to the most significant values and writers were also preserved in the period following the founder’s death.
Acquired by Luciano Mauri and Mario Spagnol and entrusted to the publishing management of Luigi Brioschi, since 1986 Ugo Guanda Editore has combined faithfulness to the tradition (above all regarding poetry) with the calling for literary discoveries and a taste for the new.
In 1995 Stefano Mauri became Chief executive officer and in 1999 Luigi Brioschi was made President.
From the Latin American fiction boom to the exceptional wave of Irish writing to the new American novel to the voices of more distant shores such as Iceland, to new English fiction and its Chemical Generation, Guanda offers the highest quality international catalogue, full of leading writers, including: Roddy Doyle, Nick Hornby, Joseph O’Connor, William Trevor, John Updike, Anne Tyler, Irvine Welsh, Catherine Dunne, Jonathan Safran Foer, Adam Thirlwell, Arundhati Roy, Luis Sepúlveda, Francisco Coloane, Almudena Grandes, Alain de Botton, Marie Darrieussecq.
In addition to these writers there is a large group of Italian authors (Bruno Arpaia, Paola Mastrocola, Guido Conti, Marco Vichi, Gianni Biondillo, Gianluca Morozzi, Alessandro Banda, Antonella Cilento, Pietro Spirito, Marco Santagata, the work of Ottiero Ottieri). In Poeti della Fenice there are big names in contemporary poetry, such as Neruda, Prevert, Ginsberg, Heaney, Bonnefoy and Adonis.
Since ’98 the publisher also has its own line of pocket books, with over 150 titles: Le Fenici Tascabili. 2004 saw the addition of a line of original essays on important current topics, the Fenici Rosse; a series of travel books in a cultured and literary style was created in 2005: Citta` d’Autore. Lastly, again as of 2005, Guanda is publishing an annual illustrated Almanac.
